Highland Recreation Center 400 Highland Ave., Largo FL (map)
World Friendship Day has been celebrated around the globe for many years, but in 2011 the United Nations declared July 30 as the official commemoration of the role friendship between peoples, countries and cultures can play in inspiring peace efforts and building bridges between communities.
Our club will mark the occasion on Saturday, July 31 with a potluck luncheon at the Highland Recreation Center at 400 Highland Ave. in Largo from 11 am until 2 pm. Please put the date on your calendar and join us to make new friends and spend some time together.
This will be a great time to bring friends who might be interested in joining our wonderful club. It will also give those going on the Long Island or Dallas journeys an opportunity to meet one another. To help defray the cost of the rental space, we ask each member to donate $5. Please bring your donation to the potluck; do not mail it to anyone.
We would like everyone to bring a dish to share and his/her own beverage. The club will supply paper goods, decorations and entertainment. To ensure a variety of food, we ask that those whose names begin with A – G bring the main dish; those whose names begin with H – M bring salads; and those whose names begin with N – W bring a dessert. Of course, if you have a favorite dish you may change with someone whose name differs from yours. Electricity will be available if you want to keep your dish warm.
Adding to our celebration of diverse cultures, what about cooking up a dish with an international flare? With all our travels, most of us can probably whip up an arroz con pollo, Swedish meatballs, curry or flan. (Is that too optimistic? There are lots of recipes on the web that sound fun, delicious and doable.)
RSVP to Jane Lee by July 21 via email [email protected] or phone 727-266-4380.
